Helpful tips:

- Many health insurance providers now have a helpful information web site and nearly all insurance companies have a toll-free number you can call for more information.

- Most health insurance companies or employers distribute an annually updated benefits booklet.

- Some health insurance agencies will use another company’s preferred provider list - more common with out-of-state carriers.

- Some health insurance benefits have both in-network (contracted) and out-of-network (no contract) coverage.

- Please ask your health insurance representative if this therapist is an in-network provider and/or if you have out-of-network benefits.

- Occasionally a health insurance agency will make special arrangements to cover a non-contracted (out-of-network) provider, this is more likely if:

    - you have a specialized need

    - if there is a therapist shortage in the area

        (few listed therapists)

(too long of a wait to see someone)

    - if your primary care provider refers you to that therapist

- Please review your mental health benefits.

-Every policy differs in what is covered, how many visits are allowed, and what your co-pay and/or deductible will be.

    -Many policies require preauthorization.

-Be sure to document who gives you an authorization, when you contacted them, and what office they are in.

-You are responsible for obtaining preauthorization information and providing this at your initial visit.
